China Remains an Elusive Yet Enticing Market to Pursue for the US Beef Cattle Industry
Wed, 04 May 2011 13:47:11 CDT
American agriculture remains engrossed with the prospect of marketing more of our commodities in China. That includes the beef sector, which right now is prohibited from selling U.S. beef to that country. Once the ban that dates back to 2003 is lifted, however, the opportunities could be huge.
Kansas State University Agricultural Economist Ted Schroeder recently oversaw a study of Chinese beef consumption trends, and how the U.S. beef industry might one day satisfy that market. He believes that in order to be ready for that market opportunity, the U.S. beef industry needs to be attuned to Chinese beef preferences, and that was the intent of this study.
We hear from him on today's Beef Buzz. (Our picture is of a feedlot just outside of Beijing that was visited by members of the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program in 2008.)
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the state on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
