Livestock Marketing Association will be hosting their 48th Annual World Livestock Auctioneer Championship on June 25, 2011. The contest will take place at Upstate Livestock Exchange in Williamston, South Carolina, with 33 livestock auctioneers competing. Of those 33 competitors, four are from Oklahoma and will be battling it out for the title of world livestock auctioneer champion.
The first two Oklahoma representatives are Justin Dodson of Welch and Dustin Focht of Stillwater. Both competed in the Montgomery Quarterfinal at the Montgomery Stock Yards on Sept. 13. Dodson was named champion and Focht won the reserve champion title.
Another contestant representing Oklahoma at the WLAC is Kevin Magby. Magby is from Atoka and competed in the Burlington Quarterfinal at the Burlington Livestock Exchange on Oct. 28. Magby scored in the top eight at the quarterfinal, which guaranteed him a spot in as a competitor in the WLAC.
The final Oklahoman participating in the WLAC is Brian Marlin of Inola. Marlin competed in the Bloomington Quarterfinal at the Bloomington Livestock Exchange on March 4. Marlin was named the runner-up champion at the quarterfinal.
The eight highest scorers in each of the qualifying contests will participate in the WLAC. The winners take home cash and a variety of prizes, including, for the world champion, $5,000 in cash, a custom-designed World Champion diamond ring and a year's free use of a new truck. Over the next year the world champion will travel across the country, appearing at LMA member markets and industry events.
The World Livestock Auctioneer Championship was created and is conducted by LMA to turn the spotlight on competitive livestock marketing and the auctioneer's vital role in that process.
