Wed, 07 Sep 2011 10:40:38 CDT

Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts Hosting Conservation Drought Seminar Farmers, ranchers, and other landowners are invited to attend a regional conservation drought seminar to be held at the Dewey County Fairgrounds in Taloga, Oklahoma on September 20, 2011.

According to Dan Herald, Northwest Oklahoma District Director for the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD) this meeting is an effort by the conservation districts of Western Oklahoma to get as much information out to producers as possible.

"This drought has the potential to be one for the record books," Herald said. "We need to make sure all producers know what options are available to them to help through this growing disaster."

Speakers scheduled to be at the seminar include Gary McManus with the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, NRCS Soil Scientist Troy Collier, NRCS Grazing Lands Specialist Brandon Reavis, Chris Neel and Maria Moreno with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, Michael Nichols with the Farm Services Agency and Roger Gribble, Oklahoma State University Area Extension Agronomist. Lunch will be provided.

Anyone interested in attending the meeting should RSVP to the Dewey County Conservation District at 580-328-5366 or by e-mail at deweyccd@conservation.ok.gov by September 13.

The meeting is being sponsored by the Dewey County Conservation District, the Upper Washita Conservation District, the Blaine, Ellis, Major, Custer, and Woodward County Conservation Districts, the Central North Canadian River Conservation District and the Cimarron Valley Conservation District. Lunch will be co-sponsored by Bank 7, Farm Data Services Inc. and Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma.
