Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler Serving Up the Same Burgers Since 1971

Thu, 08 Sep 2011 14:56:26 CDT

Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler Serving Up the Same Burgers Since 1971 Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler in Oklahoma City, Okla., is continuing as the Legendary Restaurants of Oklahoma on Sept. 8. Johnnie's began back in 1971 as a small burger joint with 12 car hop stalls and could only seat about 48 people. Today, Johnnie's has seven different locations throughout Oklahoma City and serves about 4,000 to 8,000 people every day.

Rick Haynes, owner of Johnnie's, says they are still serving the same burger that has been around since the 1950s and holding onto the same family traditions that have been around since the beginning.

"We still do things the way we've done them for 40 years," says Haynes. " We still cook on real charcoal. We make our own onion rings and we make our own hickory sauce that we cook every day in each of our stores. Everything is the same quality that it was in 1971."

Serving their fourth generation of customers, Johnnie's has a menu full of a variety of items from salads to soups to chicken fried steaks, however, Haynes says at the end of the day, they pride themselves on their hamburgers. In fact, they will sell over three-fourths of a million pounds of hamburger patties in just one year.

Haynes says they want customers to have a great experience and service with delicious food whenever they come to Johnnie's. At Johnnie's, they will call you by name and not a number to treat you to a great meal in a family-friendly environment says Haynes.

As part of the Legendary Restaurants of Oklahoma deal, at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, customers will be able to purchase two $25 vouchers to Johnnie's for $25. But, there are only 100 vouchers available for purchase. The Legendary Restaurants of Oklahoma selected Johnnie's because of their history and reputation as a fine dining establishment. More restaurants from across the state will be featured as legendary restaurants throughout the upcoming year.
