Fri, 09 Sep 2011 16:46:53 CDT
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host two White-tailed Deer Management workshops to help producers better understand and utilize Oklahoma's primary wildlife resource.
The first workshop will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in Sherman, Texas. The second workshop, which will present similar information, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Arcadia Conservation Education Area in Edmond, Okla. Both workshops, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., are open to the public, but space is limited to 45 registrants each.
During the workshops, consultants and researchers from the Noble Foundation will discuss deer biology (including facts, myths and misconceptions), habitat, food habits, population management, antler development, aging and management associations. The workshops will include a plant walk focusing on deer food plant identification.
"These workshops provide hands-on demonstrations, presentations with in-class discussion and several publications," said Mike Porter, Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultant. "We provide a wealth of information for both novices and experienced managers so everyone can better understand and implement effective deer management."
Each workshop costs $20, which includes lunch. To register for a workshop or for more information, contact Tracy Cumbie at 580.224.6411 or tlcumbie@noble.org, or click here to register online.
