2011 Cotton Crop in Pictures- Ready for Harvest
Tue, 01 Nov 2011 05:45:00 CDT
Irrigated cotton that was able to get enough water during this past summer's hottest series of days well above one hundred degrees is now about ready for harvest. In traveling from Amarillo to Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon, October 31st, we saw a large number of fields "white unto harvest" along the highway- mostly in Texas from around Groom over to McLean on the Texas side of the line. However, we also saw several similar fields once we crossed the Oklahoma line- including the one where we snapped these pictures.
The field of cotton shown here is just off of the Hext Road exit- just a little west of Sayre, Oklahoma in Beckham County. This field did receive irrigation- the second shot below shows the irrigation center pivot in the picture. Yield potential looks fairly good- and the cotton appeared ready for harvest.
We took a few more pictures of this field as well- click here to go and see the full set of Cotton 2011 crop pictures we took at this location in Beckham County.
