Cattle and Beef Markets in Uncharted Territory
Fri, 18 Nov 2011 05:46:56 CST
Cash cattle prices and wholesale boxed beef have climbed higher during the fall months- and Oklahoma State University Extension Livestock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel says that even higher levels are likely- maybe yet this year but more likely in the spring. Peel says that prices up around $130 per hundred for cattle ready to head to the processing might yet be seen before we ring in the new year, and that level or perhaps a little higher than that could be the highs of 2012 next spring.
Wholesale boxed prices for choice beef have also been extremely strong- and this week have been hovering around $1.95 a pound- within shouting distance of two dollar a pound levels.
We talk about these levels- and the reasons for this strength with Dr. Peel on today's Beef Buzz.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
