Terry Detrick, President of American Farmers and Ranchers, and many others in AFR are preparing many different resolutions and policies to deal with agricultural issues as the AFR Convention approaches in February. Detrick talked with Ron Hays about many of the issues they are addressing such as water, the failure of the Super Committee, and regulation issues on agriculture.

Detrick says when it comes to water, people need to keep in mind that 75% of the rainfall in Oklahoma falls on agricultural land. The farmers and ranchers are the first caretakers of the rainfall and Detrick says we need to make sure that they continue to have enough water to produce food for a hungry world.
With the failure of the Super Committee, Detrick says he was not surprised that the committee did not come up with an agreement but there will be a Farm Bill written and it will be written in the open. Detrick says he thinks the word that needs to get out is to consumers and to encourage our agricultural producers.
Finally, when it comes to regulation issues such as dust regulation and changes within the Department of Labor, Detrick says they have to all they can to end these regulations. With the Department of Labor wanting to keep youth away from livestock, Detrick says they are doing all they can to help protect 4-H and FFA youth that are taking responsibility and caring for animals.
