Artificial Insemination Applications for Commerical Cattlemen
Tue, 08 Nov 2011 11:53:39 CST
Breeding strategies in the cattle industry have really developed with the use of artificial insemination, or commonly referred to as AI. Ben Eggers, an Angus seedstock cattleman in Missouri, says it is easier than ever before for commercial cattlemen to use AI in their breeding systems with all of the technology and research.
Eggers adds that commercial cattlemen can also use the AI system as a genetic improvement tool to help move their herd in a certain direction to try to create more uniformity in their herd and to create a type of cattle that they want to market. Eggers uses the AI system in several new blood lines and to create diverse genetic options.
However, the AI system can be used just as easily to create herd consistency once the main goals for the herd are identified.
