The final cattle market review for 2011 has been released by Ed Czerwien of the Amarillo, Texas Market News Office of USDA. Czerwien says that weekly slaughter in December was dialed back comapred to earlier in the fall, with December weekly average slaughter numbers totalled 465,000 head a week versus an average of 510,000 head slaughtered weekly in October.
Cash cattle trade was light once again in the final week of the year, with prices on a live basis called one to three dollars cheaper in the Texas-Oklahoma feedlots from $121 to $122.
Czerwien also offers us details of some direct texas Feeder Cattle contract trade between Christmas and New Year's. 750 to 800 steers were contracted for February through March delivery at $149 to $150 per hundredweight, while April to May delivery were lined up to go at $150 to $152.
