AFR's Terry Detrick Expresses Disappointment with Lack Mention of Agriculture in State of the Union Address
Thu, 26 Jan 2012 03:10:26 CST
Terry Detrick, President of American Farmers & Ranchers issued the following statement relative to President Obama's State of the Union Address:
"Our members were disappointed in the lack of a direct reference to the importance of agriculture in the American economy and way of life. Our producers have been and will continue to be the backbone that allows this country to stand tall through any challenge."
"We were encouraged to see the President mention the theme of keeping jobs in America throughout his speech. Cutting taxes on American-based businesses is certainly a worthy aim. We were also pleased with his emphasis on trade, as Oklahoma agriculture must export most of the commodities we produce."
"His focus on natural gas and clean energy is positive and they could place Oklahoma's economy as a major driver for the balance of the 21st century. We were most happy that he pointed out the ridiculous federal regulation on dairy farmers and hope that his administration would address the many unnecessary regulations affecting agriculture today."
