AFR Elects New Board of Directors, Honors Whitson
Mon, 20 Feb 2012 12:19:05 CSTThe American Farmers & Ranchers hosted their 107th Annual Convention in Norman, Oklahoma, at the Embassy Suites & Conference Center Feb. 18-19, 2012. At the convention, the membership voted to fill three contested seats on the Board of Directors. Winning the Vice Presidents seat was current vice president, John Porter, Stillwater. In the Southwest, Joe Ed Kinder, Chattanooga, was elected to retain his current seat and Harry Jordan, Ada, was elected to the At-Large board seat formally held by outgoing member, Jim Campbell. All three elected members will serve a three-year term.
AFR's President Terry Detrick announced, "This year will be an exciting year to grow our company and bring fresh ideas in order to meet all challenges that may get thrown at us."
At the end of the convention a banquet was held to wrap-up all festivities of the weekend. Several legislators and their spouses attended along with the Honorable Frank Lucas, who was the keynote speaker. Among one of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of Dr. Robert Whitson, Vice President of Oklahoma State University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. AFR recognized Dr. Whitson for his countless years of service not only to OSU and the Department of Agriculture, but as a partner and supporter of American Farmers & Ranchers.
"Dr. Whitson is a lifelong friend of mine, and he is the true meaning of 'grass roots' and his service to and for rural Oklahoma will never be replaced," Detrick said.
