Forestry Service Offers Tree Seedlings to Landowners During Truck Sale in OKC
Wed, 28 Mar 2012 16:13:59 CDT
Landowners living near the metro area will have an opportunity to buy tree seedlings from the Oklahoma Forestry Service during a truck sale April 3rd. The seedlings will be available during the Farmers Market at the Agriculture Building at 2800 North Lincoln in Oklahoma City from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The State's seedling tree planting program has provided tree and shrub seedlings to rural landowners since1928. These trees offer ag producers and other owners of more rural lands the chance to add value, create income opportunities, or solve environmental problems using trees.
The forestry service has held 20 seedling sales across the state this year.
Landowners may purchase forest tree and shrub seedlings for conservation plantings on their property. Purposes include wildlife habitat, erosion control, the production of wood products, windbreaks, reforestation, stream bank stabilization and similar purposes.
The minimum order is 100 bare-root or 50 container-grown trees. A professional forester will be available to assist landowners in designing their planting and choosing appropriate species. Several vendors of locally-grown fresh produce will also be present at the adjoining Farmers Market.
Landowners interested in trees but who are not able to make this sale may order seedlings on-line by clicking here, or call the Forest Regeneration Center at 800-517-3673.
