US House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas Files for Reelection Bid In Oklahoma's Third Congressional District
Wed, 11 Apr 2012 22:20:28 CDT
The Chairman of the House Ag Committee, Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas, has filed for reelection for the Third District Seat in the US Congress from the state of Oklahoma. Wednesday was the first of three days where candidates could file, and as of the close of business on Wednesday, Lucas had no challenger for another term in Washington. Candidates may file until the end of the day on Friday, April 13, 2012. His campaign organization offered this news release on Wednesday evening after Congressman Lucas had filed at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City earlier in the day.
Congressman Frank Lucas has officially announced his intent to run for re-election to the United States House of Representatives, filing for office April 11th as a Republican candidate in the Third Congressional
District of Oklahoma. In a very diverse congressional district covering almost one half of the land mass of the state, the voters have demonstrated their trust in Lucas by returning him to represent them with an average of 69 percent of the vote over the last fivegeneral elections.
"Every day I remember that I have been entrusted by the people of the Third Congressional District of Oklahoma to represent them in Congress. During my tenure in Congress I have fought to guarantee that the values of rural America and the citizens of Oklahoma are upheld and that their voices are heard in Washington," stated Lucas. "However, there remains work to be done. As a lifelong Oklahoman, I am well aware of the issues that are important to my friends and neighbors and will make certain those issues are addressed. Oklahoma needs some one in Congress who will stand up for American farmers and ranchers as the Obama Administration continues its very confrontational stance towards the families who produce our supply of food and fiber. I will continue my fight to encourage economic growth for small businesses and American families, and to ensure that our children and grandchildren are not strapped with crippling debt, and will proudly work to maintain a strong military and to enact an 'all-of-the-above' energy strategy for our nation. I am asking for the support of all Oklahomans - Republican, Democrat, and Independent - to help make our state and our nation a better place today and tomorrow."
Lucas is a lifelong farmer and rancher who was heavily involved in the crafting of the 2002 and 2008 Farm Bills, and at present is the first Oklahoman to serve as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture. Lucas cited the ongoing 2012 Farm Bill negotiations as critical to the Third District over the next two years.
"The ongoing Farm Bill debate will establish U.S. agricultural policy for the next five years and beyond," Lucas said. "Everything from commodity programs to conservation issues to rural development is in the mix, and I am working hard to craft a fair, equitablefarm program reauthorization that works across industry and geography, and that gives all of us in rural America a chance not only to survive, but to thrive."
Lucas is also a senior member on the House Financial Services Committee and the House Committee on Science and Technology, and when he is not voting in Washington he travels home to work on the ranch with his wife, Lynda. Lucas graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1982 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. Frank and Lynda have threechildren and one grandchild.
