In this week's beef report, according to Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week May 18 , 2012 at $194.63 cwt, about $2.00 than the previous Friday, but a dollar lower from the midweek high. The total choice loads last week was 1,002. The total sales volume was large at 7,619 loads last week. It appears retails sales were good over the Memorial Day weekend which means supplies will have to be replenished this week.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was one to mostly two dollars lower last week with most live sales at the $121 cwt mark with dressed sales in the North at mostly $194 cwt.
The average live weight from the Texas Panhandle was 1,233, four pounds heavier than the previous week.
