Using MBA Grads to Communicate Key Messages for the Beef Industry is What It's All About

Wrapping up our conversation with Daren Williams- known to many in the beef industry as the "Dean" of the MBA Program. MBA, of course, stands for the Masters in Beef Advocacy program that now boasts of over 3,000 graduates across the country. The MBA program is funded by the Beef Checkoff program.

The MBA coursework consists of 6 online modules or lessons- helping the person learn more about all aspects of modern beef cattle production. The intention of the program is to turn out graduates who will speak up in a positive way for the cattle industry- and according to Williams in this third of three Beef Buzzes looking at the MBA program, graduates have stepped up in a veriety of ways. Williams says that they can now send out "an all points bulletin" about an issue that the beef industry needs graduates to be talking about- and MBA grads respond in a variety of ways.

That includes one on one conversations with people they know, as well as via social media. And Willams says that while he is not sure what the next generation of social media will look like, having the people trained about beef industry issues means that many of these people will be ready to step up as that "next Facebook" comes into focus. Williams believes the key is to have people with the knowledge they gain from going through the MBA program. He thinks that getting up to 5,000 graduates is very doable, and that 10,000 is very possible as well.

Today's Beef Buzz is part three of a three day Beef Buzz conversation with Daren Williams, Executive Director for Communications with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. You can click ont he LISTEN BAR below to hear this concluding part of our visit with Daren.   Click here for part one of this conversation, where Williams talks about the MBA program reaching out to today's tech savvy generation.

For part two of our three part visit, click here as we talk about how using MBA grads to jump onto the various social media platforms to engage consumers about issues like Pink Slime and BSE offer great benefits for the beef cattle industry.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
