North American Limousin Foundation and Geneseek Announce Partnership and New Product Availability
Tue, 26 Jun 2012 10:15:10 CDT
The North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) and Geneseek, a Neogen Corporation Company, have solidified a non-exclusive agreement for genomic testing services. Besides testing services, this agreement also includes a NALF exclusive product in the form of the new Igenity-Enabled Limousin Genomic Profiler, and simplification of genetic testing with competitive prices, all through a market leader in animal genomics.
"We are excited to have GeneSeek join NALF as a genetic service provider," states Mark Anderson, executive director at NALF. "The Genomic Profiler offers additional information and promise of enhanced EPD accuracy for our breeders. It also combines tests such as parentage, coat color, and polled status that our producers use on a regular basis, along with information needed to produce Genomic-Enhanced EPD, into a single affordable product."
The Limousin Genomic Profiler is operated on the Geneseek Genomic Profiler and yields molecular breeding values (MBVs) that will be used in NALF's National Cattle Evaluation starting in the fall of 2012. Beginning August 1, 2012, breeders using the Profiler will receive a simple report of scores (on a 1-10 scale) for various traits and the Molecular Breeding Values will be incorporated in the animal's EPDs beginning this fall.
"NALF and Igenity have worked together diligently over the last few years in the development of a Limousin specific panel," says Dr. Stewart Bauck of GeneSeek. "These years of research have yielded a product that is accurate and affordable while enhancing selection tools for breeders."
GeneSeek will also be involved in testing for myostatin (F94L) and various genetic defects for NALF. NALF members will have rights to exclusive pricing through the Foundation, which will handle the orders and samples. For more information on products available and pricing, contact the NALF office at 303.220.1693 or visit the website www.nalf.org.
