Oklahoma Wheat Growers Like Lucas-Peterson FARRM Bill Proposal

Mon, 09 Jul 2012 03:29:56 CDT

Oklahoma Wheat Growers Like Lucas-Peterson FARRM Bill Proposal The following statement was issued by Tim Bartram, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association as the group offered their support for the "draft discusssion" farm bill proposal advanced this past Thursday by House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas of Oklahoma and his ranking minority member for the Committee, Minnesota Democrat Collin Peterson. This measure will be considered by the full House Ag Committee on Wednesday morning during a Business Meeting of the Committee in Washington.

"The Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association and its member wheat farmers would like to express public strong support of the bipartisan farm bill or FARRM which was proposed by Chairman Frank Lucas and Ranking Member Colin Peterson of the House Agriculture Committee.

"I believe that is bill provides a true safety net to stabilize agriculture and food prices for all of the United States and its citizens. It also makes significant cuts to federal spending which we in agriculture understand and support," said Paul Fruendt, Oklahoma Wheat Growers President.

"Oklahoma wheat farmers understand the budget must be cut and spending controlled and are willing to take their fair share of the cuts. These cuts are in balance with Agriculture's portion of the whole federal budget. We feel this bill accomplishes this goal. It also keeps in place a bankable farm safety net. Crop insurance is improved and we have a mechanism to provide long term price protection. This bill is more equitable in cuts among crops and regions of the country therefore fair. It also continues to allow planting flexibility and fits different management practices. We understand and support the idea that crop rotation is needed in Oklahoma to improve the quality of the wheat crop."
