Choice Boxed Beef prices drop again and the finished cattle trade was mostly a dollar higher in light trade for week ending July 7, 2012 - Audio with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office, Amarillo, Texas

In this week's beef report with according to Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week July 7, at $192.65 cwt, fully $2.00 lower than the previous week. Only 845 loads were moved, however, it was a holiday week. The total boxed beef volume for last week was 7,762 loads, about 1,400 loads less than the previous week.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was mostly a dollar higher with live sales in Kansas and Texas at $117 cwt. The dressed sales were mostly steady last week at $185 to $188 cwt.
The harvest weights continue to increase. The average live weight for cattle harvest in the Texas Panhandle was 14 pounds heavier at 1,266 pounds.
