Choice Boxed Beef prices and finish cattle trade both drop for week ending July 14, 2012 - Audio with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office, Amarillo, Texas

In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week July 14, dropped $8.70 to $183.94 cwt, however the load count did improve from the previous week. The total boxed beef volume last week was 7,220 loads, up over 800 loads from the holiday week trade.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was $2.00 lower than last week in all regions, following the lower boxed beef trade lower. Most live trade was at the $115 cwt mark with dressed sales were $4 to $5 lower at mostly $182 cwt to $183 cwt.
The harvest weights continue to increase as it has all year. The average live weight for cattle harvested from the Texas Panhandle last week was 1,275 pounds.
