Choice Boxed Beef prices drop while the finish cattle trade was higher for week ending July 27, 2012 - Audio with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office, Amarillo, Texas

In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week July 27, drop little over $2.00 to $176.94 cwt, driven mainly by large sales of 50% trimmings. The total boxed beef volume for last week was 6, 999 loads.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was $1.00 to $2.50 higher last week with live sales bringing $114 cwt to $115 cwt in the South with a few live sales in Nebraska at $115.50 cwt. Dressed prices last week were $180 cwt to $181 cwt. Business was fairly light.
The harvest weights continue to increase. Average live weights for cattle harvested from the Texas Panhandle was 1,272 pounds
