In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week of August 31, 2012, lose $2.50 ending last Friday at $189.62 cwt. Volume on the choice was light again with 804 loads. That was the third week in a row the spot volume has been extremely low. The total boxed volume for the week for all cuts, trims and grinds was 7, 164 loads, steady with the previous week..
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was $2.00 to $3.00 higher last week with live sales mainly at $122 to $123 cwt. Dressed deals in the North were mainly at the $190 cwt mark.
The harvest weights last week from the Texas Panhandle was 1,256 pounds last week, seven pounds lower than the previous week.
