2013 Wheat Crop Hangs On- Waiting for Rain- Latest WheatWatch 2013 Pictures

Wheat farmers continue to wait and hope for rains that could maintain- and in many cases- help save the 2013 wheat crop at least partially. The pictures here from are from northeast Canadian County as seen on January 8, 2013. The picture above is from a location that we have taken pictures before- and this shot and the first one below seem to indicate that this field has gone backwards even as the wheat has gone into dormancy.
The second picture down is also from a close by field that we have taken shots of this past fall in October and early November- and the field looks to be in a lot poorer condition than seen at those times. The bottom picture below is from a field that we have not taken pictures from previously- but shows wheat that is even in worse shape than the previous two fields. This wheat is barely established and reflects more than sixty percent of the state's wheat crop that is rated in poor to very poor condition as we begin 2013.
These same pictures and several more from these wheat fields can also be seen- along with pictures from this past fall- in our 2013 Wheat "set" found on FLICKR- click here to go and see the full 2013 set to date.
These pictures are a part of WheatWatch 2013- a service of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, working hard for Oklahoma wheat producers. To learn more about their efforts on behalf of the Oklahoma wheat industry, click here for their website.
