Cattle on Feed Numbers Analyzed by OSU's Derrell Peel
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 20:57:43 CST
Cattle on feed numbers from USDA showed the US feedlot industry is facing the problem of significantly smaller cattle supplies. The total number of cattle in the US feedlots were off six percent from January 1, 2012. Placements were actually down one percent- the trade was expecting placements to actually be above the numbers of a year ago, while marketings were actually better than what the pre repor guesses were.
After the report, Farm Director Ron Hays spent some time talking cattle market strategies with Oklahoma State University Livestock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel. Peel's comments about the cattle on feed report is featured in today's Beef Buzz.
