Oklahoma Oilseed Commission Seeks Nominations for Upcoming District 2 Election

The Oklahoma Oilseed Commission will conduct an election for the commissioner position representing District 2 of the Commission. District 2 consists of the following counties: Beckham, Washita, Caddo, Grady, Greer, Kiowa, Comanche, Harmon, Jackson, Tillman, and Cotton. Voters in District 2 will elect one commissioner to serve a five (5) year term beginning July 1, 2013. The election will be conducted beginning May 23, 2013 and ending June 7, 2013. Anyone who is at least 25 years of age, is a resident of Oklahoma, has been actually engaged in the production of oilseed in the state for a period of at least two (2) years and derives a portion of their income from the production of oilseed is eligible to serve on the Commission. Applicants/nominees must also reside and farm in one of the counties comprising District 2.
The five member Commission administers the check off funds which are collected on oilseed grown in the state. An assessment determined by the Commission is collected and used to develop programs that will enhance oilseed production, providing oilseed research, promoting market development and education, and improving profitability of Oklahoma oilseed producers.
To give proportionate distribution of commission members, the state of Oklahoma has been divided into five districts. Producers who reside in District 2 and are actively engaged in the production of oilseed in the current fiscal year are eligible to vote in this election.
Any person qualified to serve on the Commission representing District 2 may self-apply or have his or her name placed in nomination to represent District 2. The applicant or nominee must certify that he or she is willing to serve if elected. The application/nomination form must be signed by the applicant/nominee and must have the signature and complete mailing addresses of ten (10) other eligible voters who reside in District 2. Application/Nomination forms may be obtained from the Oklahoma Oilseed Commission, County Extension offices, and grain elevators. Application/Nomination forms must be returned to the Oklahoma Oilseed Commission by April 23, 2013.
The election shall be conducted by mail-in ballot. Ballots will be available from the Oklahoma Oilseed Commission office, County Extension Offices, and grain elevators by May 13, 2013. Ballots must be received no later than 5:00 pm June 7, 2013 at the Oklahoma Oilseed Commission office, Attn: Ron Sholar, Executive Director, PO Box 2106, Stillwater, OK, 74076.
