FFA, Grow Like That!- Josh Brecheen, Past State FFA President

The theme of the 2013 Oklahoma FFA Convention to be held April 30th through May 1, 2013 is "FFA, Grow Like That!" There are thousands of former FFA members that serve as role models for current and future FFA students- and the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and OklahomaFarmReport.Com are pleased to be working with the Oklahoma FFA Association to spotlight some of the tremendously successful men and women who wore the Blue and Gold Jacket of the FFA during their high school days- and have used that experience as a springboard to success in later life.

During April and May, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network is producing a series of radio announcements spotlighting a half dozen of these high achievers. These announcements, sponsored by SandRidge Energy, will be heard on radio stations statewide and will also be available to listen to on our Radio Oklahoma Ag Network YouTube channel. The content from each announcement comes from an in depth interview that Farm Director Ron Hays has conducted with each of the highlighted achievers. (You can also listen to the full interview by clicking on the LISTEN BAR at the bottom of this story.)

One former FFA member that Ron Hays spoke with is Past State FFA President Josh Brecheen, who served the state association in 1998 in that office. Today, he is a State Senator, presenting a district in southeastern Oklahoma where he grew up.

Oklahoma State Senator Josh Brecheen was elected to the State Senate in November 2010. He represents District 6, consisting of Atoka, Coal, Bryan, Johnston and Marshall Counties.

Prior to his election to the Oklahoma legislature, Josh served almost six years as a field representative for U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. As a field representative, Brecheen was one of Senator Coburn's "boots on the ground," working directly with constituents on issues, and evaluating government programs for waste, fraud and abuse.

Josh owns a motivational speaking business, Brecheen Keynotes and Seminars. Since the inception of the business, Brecheen has provided inspirational presentations to over 600,000 people in more than 600 school systems, conferences and universities in many states. Presentations provided from 2004-2010, were provided free of charge to comply with U.S Senate Ethics rulings.

He credits his success in business and public life to his foundational training in the FFA. He points to the role models he became involved with during his years wearing the Blue and Gold jacket. He followed role models that he saw as having a "strong work ethic, integrity, well spoke, genuine, authentic and always pressing you to be the best person you can possibly can with what God has given you."

Brecheen says that today as he serves at the State Capitol that those who have been involved in the FFA are easy to spot- "You can pinpoint a FFA member, they stand out. They're charismatic, they're upward and outward, they're dyanmic and they're authentic." Senator Brecheen adds that "We're all products of our environment and what the FFA is just one of the most positive atmospheres a young adult can have access to."
