Large Numbers of Heavy Weight Feeders Placed in April Worry Tom Leffler

Large Numbers of Heavy Weight Feeders Placed in April Worry Tom Leffler

After a quick look at the latest USDA Cattle on Feed Report, the on feed, marketings and placement numbers were all within trade expectations this past Friday- but still the significantly higher placements of April 2013 compared to April 2012 were enough to make Tom Leffler with Leffler Commodities to call this an unfriendly Cattle on Feed Report.

On feed numbers as of the first of May were the third smallest May on feed number in the past eight years- but we did see the on feed number go from five percent less than a year ago on April first to three percent under a year ago on May first.

Leffler says the numbers that really trouble him are the heavier weight cattle that were placed on feed during the month of April. For example, the eight hundred pounds and up category is up 21.3% of a year ago(placements this APril versus April 2012).

Leffler talked with the Radio Oklahoma Network's Jim Apel- and we feature some the comments that Leffler offered on the report on today's Beef Buzz.

The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
