Noble Foundation Field Day Focuses on Hay Production
Mon, 20 May 2013 10:02:39 CDT
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Basic AG Hay Production Field Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Thursday, June 6, at the Carpenter's Bluff Hay Ranch located at 4336 Carpenter's Bluff Road in Denison, Texas.
This workshop is designed to teach fertilizer and weed control methods that can increase hay yield and improve forage quality.
"Yield and quality are two important aspects of a successful hay operation, especially if targeting high priced hay markets," said Jeri Donnell, agricultural economics consultant. "Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from Noble Foundation experts about proper fertilizer applications and weed control options, and also see small-plot fertilizer demonstration results."
A panel discussion will conclude the field day, allowing attendees interaction with experienced hay producers. The panel will consist of local producers, a custom harvester and the Grayson County Extension agent. Panel members will discuss their expectations, experiences and challenges when starting and managing a hay operation.
The Noble Foundation's Basic AG is an educational program to benefit those new to agriculture. The series provides practical, foundational knowledge that can be used in everyday operations. "While the seminars target those just entering the agricultural industry, anyone can attend," said Hugh Aljoe, Noble Foundation consultation program manager. "The information gained can be applied to many agricultural production scenarios or situations."
The events offer information and provide new tools to achieve specific agriculture-related goals. Basic AG events will frequently incorporate speakers from state and federal agricultural organizations, as well as the occasional hands-on experience.
"The Noble Foundation's Basic AG program provides quality, timely information presented in a clear and concise format," Aljoe said. "Each event, including the upcoming workshop, offers attendees plenty of time to ask questions and visit with the experts. Each event holds the potential to immediately enhance a new producer's operation."
This workshop is offered at no charge, but preregistration is required. For more information or to preregister, please visit www.noble.org/agevents or contact Jackie Kelley at 580.224.6360.
