Drought Relief Continues Across Oklahoma Except in Panhandle
Thu, 02 May 2013 15:29:11 CDT
The newly-released drought monitor map shows Oklahoma continuing to improve--at least in central and eastern parts of the state while dry conditions in the Panhandle continued to deepen.
Thirty-two percent of the state is now drought-free, with 17 percent no longer included in even the "abnormally dry" category.
In the Panhandle, locations in the two western-most counties have gone from 68 to 138 days without seeing a quarter of an inch of rain in a single day. Cimarron County has gone the same length of time without even one-tenth of an inch of rain in a single day.
The Drought Outlook map for the May-through-July period has not changed, and still calls for improvement or "some improvement" across the body of the state. The jet stream continues to bring storm systems into the state and may bring more rain before summer.
