Agricultural Community Steps Up with Multiple Tornado Relief Efforts

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry is working collaboratively with USDA, APHIS, veterinary services and other agricultural groups to address animal emergency and other related needs due to the tornado damage in Moore.
Oklahoma Agriculture Secretary Jim Reese had a conference call with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Tuesday afternoon to discuss the situation in Oklahoma. Among the relief efforts mounted by the agricultural community so far:
--ODAFF veterinarians and staff as well as private practitioners are assisting with pet reunification and sending pets to private shelters. Photos are being taken as well as ID and photos are being uploaded to the McClain County Animal Response Team FB page and okclostpets.com for owners to find their animals.
--Ten Oklahoma Forestry Services teams including a bulldozer, transport, and a three-person ranger team are stationed to assist in any way.
--10 Conservation Commission skid steer loaders on steel tracks with grapple hooks and buckets are stationed with the Department of Transportation at 1-35/1-240.
--Environmental Field Inspectors as well as other ODAFF staff and USDA staff are assisting in carcass location and disposal for the Orr Family Farms and others with carcass disposal needs.
--ODAFF delivered its Mobile Emergency Response Trailer to Insurance Commissioner John Doak; the trailer is set up for an insurance company response site at the Baptist church on I-35.
--The Oklahoma Pork Council has offered hot, prepared food for whatever location it is needed.
--Tyson is providing disaster relief with Meals that Matter disaster relief trailer and cooking teams providing meals to victims and relief workers.
--OK Peanut Commission/ TX Peanut Producers Board/ Peanut Proud- are providing a semi full of peanut butter for disaster relief. State FFA Officers are delivering peanut butter in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties. The peanut butter for Moore will be provided to rescue workers and the Food Bank.
--Livestock Marketing Association- Sale barns are providing relief in a variety of ways. They are donating hay and feed and also gathering donations at the sales for the relief efforts.
--OK Farm Bureau is collecting donations at all 77 county locations for disaster relief.
--NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) is collecting donations.
--AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) is collecting donations at their Amarillo office and delivering here on Saturday.
--Pinto Horse Association and the Pinto Heritage Foundation has set up a fund to make donations to Oklahoma tornado victims.
--AFR/Oklahoma Farmers Union Foundation is going to take donations from other member states and Oklahoma county offices to address long term needs for tornado victims.
