EWG Supports Farm Bill Amendment Limiting Crop Insurance Premium Subsidies
The Environmental Working Group applauded the Senate for passing a farm bill reform amendment offered by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) that would limit crop insurance premium subsidies for farmers with an adjusted gross income of more than $750,000.

EWG's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Scott Faber said in a statement:

"This bipartisan amendment will level the playing field for family farmers and protect taxpayers and the environment. By reducing subsidies to the largest and most successful farms, the Durbin-Coburn amendment will help save nearly $1 billion over the next 10 years. This amendment is the first of many common-sense crop insurance reform amendments that must be adopted by the full Senate when Congress returns in June. Payment limits, means testing and greater transparency are sensible reforms that will help strengthen, not weaken, the farm safety net. We applaud Sens. Durbin and Coburn for their leadership."
