Senate Ag Committee Chairwoman Stabenow Pushes for Farm Bill Wrapup This Week in the Senate
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 04:58:00 CDT
Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the US Senate Agriculture Committee, offered an overview of the 2013 Farm Bill to her colleagues in the Senate on Monday afternoon- urging a quick conclusion to the floor debate of the measure by the end of this week. In her remarks, the Chairwoman told the Senate ""We have had a good debate and a number of votes, and we're close to finishing the Bill-his Bill saves money by tightening the rules to prevent fraud and misuse in our nutrition programs. Our nutrition programs are critical, critical and essential. Just as crop insurance is there when a farmer has a disaster, food programs are there when a family has a disaster."
It's unknown if she has made progress in getting agreements to limit the number of amendments that will be considered on the floor before a final vote on the 2013 Farm Bill can occur. Unless the number of amendments can be trimmed substantially, there is little chance of finishing the bill quickly.
