Carthage- Joplin Regional Stockyards Carthage- Joplin Regional Stockyards
Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 06/03/2013

Receipts: 7084    Two Weeks Ago: 6125    Year Ago: 10,268

Compared to two weeks ago, a good test of yearling feeder cattle sold 2.00-5.00 higher. Steer calves weighing over 550 lbs and heifer calves over 450 lbs traded 1.00-3.00 higher, but lighter-weight calves were fully 5.00-10.00 higher with instances as much as 15.00 higher on pee-wee steers. Demand was much improved with increased activity from local backgrounders on light calves and the yearling market being spurred by Northern interests. Beneficial rains across the Midwest over the Memorial Day weekend also boosted the outlook for some eventual feedcost relief. Supply included 58 percent steers, 37 percent heifers, and 5 percent feeder bulls. Around 65 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
