Forest Landowner Workshop Scheduled in Idabel
Thu, 06 Jun 2013 15:02:55 CDT
Forest landowners with questions about various programs and activities related to their property can get answers through a workshop in Idabel.
"The workshop provides an ideal opportunity for forest landowners to increase their knowledge regarding property ownership," said Craig McKinley, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension forestry specialist. "Statutes and legislative initiatives impacting forest management practices also will be discussed."
Attendees will learn about the legal aspects of owning and managing woodlands, as well as prescribed burning laws in the state. Information about Oklahoma's Forest Stewardship Program also will be presented.
Presenters from OSU, Oklahoma Forestry Services (OFS) and Natural Resources Conservation Service also will explain Oklahoma's Surface Damage Act and the NRCS Conservation Stewardship Project.
"We have a great panel of presenters from many different agencies to ensure we get all our bases covered," McKinley said. "This workshop will be very beneficial to any forest landowner in Oklahoma."
Rusty Rumley, staff attorney for the National Agricultural Law Center, will speak on landowner rights and liabilities. The workshop will conclude with a field trip to a nonindustrial private property.
The June 21 workshop will take place at the Kiamichi Forest Research Station in Idabel, which is located on Highway 3, about 2 miles east of the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 70. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the Forest Landowner Workshop will end at 3 p.m.
A $10 registration fee, requested by June 15, will cover the cost of materials and refreshments. OSU Cooperative Extension, OFS and the Oklahoma Woodland Owners Association are the co-sponsors for the event.
To register or find more information about the workshop, contact McKinley by email at craig.mckinley@okstate.edu or by phone at 405-744-8065.
