HSUS Email Seeks Members' Help in Scuttling Farm Bill
Wed, 19 Jun 2013 17:01:56 CDT
In an attempt to scuttle the farm bill under consideration in the House of Representatives, the Humane Society of the United States urged its members to contact their representatives and urge them to vote against the bill.
In an email to its supporters, the HSUS took issue with the fact that the House decided to exclude from debate any further animal welfare amendments offered to the bill.
The HSUS cited its specific displeasure with the King amendment which remains in the bill up for consideration. The amendment would override state laws pushed by HSUS which limit producers from running their operations as they see fit.
"This provision is so potentially harmful, and with no amendment or debate allowed to consider the King provision on the House floor, we must now stop the entire Farm Bill in its tracks."
The HSUS email then urged readers to contact their specific member of Congress and ask them to vote against the farm bill when it comes up for a vote of the full House.
"We can't allow the dangerous King amendment to wipe out years of hard-fought victories for animals," the email message said.
