House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas Seizes Chance to End 1949 Permanent Farm Law
Wed, 10 Jul 2013 21:20:55 CDT
If Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas gets his way, we might have had the last conversation about reverting to the 1949 Permanent Farm Law if Congress does not act and pass another five year farm bill. In what is being called an emergency meeting of the Rules Committee, it appears that the Republican leadership is planning to push ahead in voting on a 2013 Farm Bill sans Nutrition as early as Thursday of this week. The bill the Rules Committee is considering is the committee-passed bill as amended on the floor without the nutrition title. Another change is the repeal of 1938 and 1949 permanent law provisions. It makes the 2013 Title I permanent law going forward. The change making the 2013 Title One permanent law was requested by Chairman Lucas, based on his explanation of why the Permanent Law changes were included in this measure the Rules Committee is hoping to send to the floor in the near future.
Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts questioned Chairman Lucas about why bring the end of the 1949 Permanent Law. You can listen to their Q&A on the subject below.
