Mary Kay Thatcher to Farm Community- Convince Congress to Get Farm Bill Done

Thu, 15 Aug 2013 07:31:05 CDT

Mary Kay Thatcher to Farm Community- Convince Congress to Get Farm Bill Done Mary Kay Thatcher, the senior director of congressional relations at the American Farm Bureau Federation addressed Farm Bill issues in a brief video update yesterday.

A summary of the update indicated that, “Farmers and ranchers will have to convince members of Congress that the Farm Bill should be a priority for them when they come back from summer break.”

Ms. Thatcher also pointed out that, “Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and others have been really clear about the idea, not only do they not want to do an extension, but if they ever did it, we wouldn’t have the direct payments. And more importantly, we wouldn’t have the about $50 billion that we get from elimination of the direct payments to turn around and build a Farm Bill with a good safety net.”
