Food Issues Highlight Next Profiles and Perspectives Event
The United States has issues with food, and Jayson Lusk, Ph.D., knows how to solve them.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, Lusk, professor, researcher and author, will present "The Future of Food" as part of the Noble Foundation's 2013-2014 Profiles and Perspectives Community Enrichment Series. Sponsored by the Noble Foundation, each Profiles and Perspectives event is free of charge and open to the public. All programs begin at 7 p.m. and are held at the Ardmore Convention Center.

Lusk will discuss America's national "eating disorder" and the role of food technology in the future. He is one of the most cited food and agricultural economists of the past decade. His research focuses primarily on predicting and understanding consumer behavior as it relates to food.

"Many have forgotten what we do well and that we live in the greatest food producing and consuming nation in the history of the world," Lusk said. "Many of the world's pressing challenges - from feeding the hungry to protecting the environment - require a look forward rather than backward."

Lusk published a book in April entitled The Food Police: A Well-Fed Manifesto About the Politics of Your Plate. He has appeared on several popular media outlets recently including The John Stossel Show and Fox & Friends. His writing for popular audiences includes articles published by Town Hall, Time, Huffington Post and New York Daily News.

"Lusk is passionate about agriculture and the social and economic impact of changing policies on both the consumer and the producer," said Mary Kate Wilson, Noble Foundation director of philanthropy, engagement and project management, and chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. "We believe he has a message that will strike a chord with our audience."

Lusk's presentation will conclude the fall portion of Profiles and Perspectives. After the holiday break, the season will continue with Gary England's presentation "Friday Night in the Big Town," a humorous and serious review of life, tornadoes, television and entertainment. This presentation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

The 2013-2014 season will conclude on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, with President Thomas Jefferson (portrayed by historic interpreter Bill Barker) and Dr. Bill White's presentation "The Idea of America."

For more information regarding the Profiles and Perspectives season, you can contact Mary Kate Wilson at 580-224-6246 or visit www.noble.org/profiles.
