The 2013 Livestock Handling Skills Scholarship Competition at the Tulsa Farm Show found the two teams entered from Pawnee FFA rising to the top this past Friday, with the Senior team from Pawnee winning the championship of the 2013 contest, while the Pawnee Junior team placed second.
The ten teams that competed in Tulsa scored highest in their FFA district this past July in a written exam taken during the annual Big Three Judging Contest Days held in Stillwater by Oklahoma State University.
Pawnee, as the winning chapter, was awarded a Cattle Sweep System, awarded by Priefert Ranch Equipment- and their team members all were presented scholarships from the Tulsa Farm Show and American Farmers & Ranchers. Winning team members of the first place team from Pawnee (shown here) include Morgan Vance, Hayden Skidgel and Chrisse Collins.
The ssecond place team, the Pawnee FFA junior team, includes Bethany Piotrowski, Erin Caldwell and John Barger. FFA Advisor for the Pawnee FFA is Brian Skidgel.
Third place in 2013 was a team from the Crescent FFA chapter, coached by Advisor Christy Jennings. Her team members winning third place include Maddie Cook, Julia Dimmitt and Seth Gentry.
Fourth place was earned by the Yale Central FFA Chapter. Team members include Jake Winterbottom, Braden Bush and Savanah Farrow- their advisor is Mitch Fuss.
Fifth place was claimed by Frontier FFA. Team members included Kelbi Lane, Colton Lane and Callie Lane. Their coach and Advisor is Randy Henderson.
Coweta FFA placed sixth- team members include Colton Keel, Colton Shrum and Chance Brooks.
Dickson Central FFA was the seventh place team- with team members Payton Sweeten, Brett Jones and Emma Meets.
The Hydro-Eakley FFA Chapter placed eighth in the Tulsa contest- with team members Brittany Gilbert, Dylan Allen and Pence.
The ninth and tenth place teams had bad luck, with both missing on one of the two animals each team was given to process. The teams only get one chance to secure the feeder calves they were working with in the chute they were working with- and in the case of the Madill and Crescent teams- one of their animals slipped through, ruining their chances of placing higher.
Representing Madill in ninth place was Tucker Burms, Will Shelby and Ladd Landgraf, while the Crescent FFA team that placed tenth included Julie Semrad, Tee Barnes and Tommy Ryland.
