DuPont Congratulates David Hula for Breaking Corn Yield World Record with Pioneer® Brand Hybrid

DuPont congratulates David Hula of Charles City, Va., for breaking the corn yield world record with Pioneer® brand hybrid P2088YHR in the 2013 National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest announced today. Winning the No-Till/Strip-Till Irrigated category, David Hula produced an entry of 454.98 bushels per acre, the highest mark ever recorded by the NCGA in its annual contest.

In all, eight growers in six states planting six different Pioneer® brand hybrids placed in the six national categories in the NCGA contest for 2013. Only growers planting Pioneer hybrids achieved the 400-bushel level in the 2013 NCGA corn yield contest.
Among state winners, growers planting Pioneer® hybrids placed in 61% of the entries.

"DuPont Pioneer extends its sincere congratulations to David Hula for this outstanding achievement," said Paul E. Schickler, president of DuPont Pioneer. "We believe this shows not only the impressive yield potential that Pioneer genetics bring to our customers, but it also demonstrates what growers can achieve by planting the right product on the right acre.

"We also offer our congratulations to all the other growers who won national and state honors in the NCGA competition. Every year the industry continues to see growers planting Pioneer corn hybrids succeed in the NCGA Corn Yield contest and we're thrilled that these growers choose Pioneer products for these winning yields."

Growers planting Pioneer® brand corn hybrids also came in second and third in the overall highest yield portion of the contest. Johnny Hula, also of Charles City, Va., had the second highest recorded yield of 2013 with Pioneer® brand P1690YHR at 421.26 bu/ac, placing second in the No-Till/Strip-Till Irrigated category, and Double 'SA' Farms, Inc., Hart, Texas, had the third highest yield, winning the Irrigated category with Pioneer® brand hybrid P1625CHR at 418.34 bu/ac.

Other growers breaking the 400-bushel level were Randy Dowdy, Valdosta, Ga., finishing third in the No-Till/Strip-Till Irrigated category with Pioneer® brand hybrid P1303HR at 417.33 bu/ac and Dowdy Farms/Curtis Davis/Renato Lamas of Valdosta, Ga., also with P1303HR at 405.12 bu/ac.

The NCGA Corn Yield contest is an annual U.S. national competition among corn growers with the goal of capitalizing on the high genetic yield potential of today's corn hybrids. Growers compete in six corn production classes, including non-irrigated (A and AA), no-till/strip-till non-irrigated (A and AA), irrigated and no-till/strip-till irrigated classes. The class A Non-Irrigated Class is open to corn producers in the continental United States, except for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio or Wisconsin. The AA Non-Irrigated Class is for corn producers entering a hybrid located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio or Wisconsin.
