Ninth Annual Conservation Tillage Conference Scheduled
The Garfield County Conservation District and County Cooperative Extension Service will hold their ningth annual Conservation Tillage Conference. The program will begin at 8:30 am with registration on Wednesday, February 19 in the Chisholm Trail Expo Center in Enid.


Program topics include: Stratification of Nutrients in No-Till Soils will be presented by Dr. Brian Arnall, OSU Extension Precision Nutrient Specialist. This presentation will be discussing movement and availability of nutrients out of the application zone throughout the growing season.


Dr. Angela Post, Assistant Professor and Extension Weed Specialist in Wheat and Canola will discuss Controlling Herbicide Resistant/Tolerant Weeds in No-Till Wheat. Multiple weed species have been identified as being resistant and/or tolerant to the more common herbicides. Her presentation will address using herbicides with different modes of action and other control methods to aid in control of those problem weeds.


Dr. Randy Taylor, Extension Ag Machinery Specialist will be discussing Data Management at the Farm Level. Producers have years of field and yield data plus other production information that may confuse and contradict so this session will focus on data management. He will offer advice on what information to keep and how to store it to be of the most benefit for individual farm operations.


Brian Bales, Outside Sales Representative for Wylie Spray Center, OKC will be presenting Spray Drift Technologies. There are unique technologies to Wylie Sprayers that will be covered. He will also provide information that can be of benefit to all types of sprayers and drift management.


During the noon steak lunch provided by conference sponsors, Dr. Jody Campiche, Extension Agriculture Policy Specialist will be discussing the conservation provisions of the new farm bill. The emphasis is that there will be a streamlining of the current 27 conservation provisions to fewer programs to increase efficiency.


Gary McManus, Associate State Climatologist will address the upcoming summer crop season for North Central Oklahoma. Gary is the Oklahoma contributor to the National Drought Monitor. He will share the short and long term precipitation outlook.


Jason Skaggs, Garfield Conservation District Manager will lead producers through the Locally Led Meeting. Producers will be able to share their input on the prioritization of conservation efforts for the county.
Michael Sheik, District Conservationist, NRCS will deliver information regarding the latest Conservation Programs available to area producers.


The program will conclude with Dr. Rodney Jones, Associate Professor, OSU Ag Economics providing a Grain and Oilseed Price Outlook. He will be emphasizing crops produced in the local region.


Continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisors are pending at this time. Interested producers are asked to register for the conference with the Garfield County OSU Extension Center at 580-237-1228 or the Garfield County Conservation District 580-237-7880.
