Oklahoma Forestry Services Seedlings Coming to a Location Near You
Oklahoma Forestry Services is wrapping up its annual conservation seedling sales by hosting truck sales in more than 20 communities across the state during March. By visiting the truck sales, Oklahomans will have the convenience of purchasing seedlings close to home, and the opportunity to talk with area foresters about tree planting and other land management issues.

"We offer conservation seedlings that have been grown in our state nursery south of Norman," said State Forester George Geissler. "These trees have been grown from local seed sources and are specifically designed to thrive in Oklahoma."

The Oklahoma Forestry Services nursery grows over thirty types of trees and shrubs from local seed sources. New species this year are chittamwood, black hickory and Indian currant. Millions of native trees and shrubs produced at the nursery are shipped to all corners of the state each year.

Seedlings are bare-root, one or two years old and 10 to 30 inches in height and sold in bundles of 50 per species. Hardwood "super cells" must be purchased in blocks of 25 per species with minimum order of 25 trees.

For those landowners in need of help, OFS foresters assist landowners planning, planting and caring for trees on their property no matter how large or small the acreage.

"We encourage landowners to visit our truck sales and, whether or not they are buying seedlings, take advantage of the opportunity to visit with our professional staff about managing their land," said Geissler.

In addition to the truck sales, seedlings can be purchased through the Oklahoma Forestry Services online store. For more information about seedlings, to place an order or to view the truck sale schedule, visit www.forestry.ok.gov/order-seedlings or call the nursery at 800-517-3673.
