No Sign of Backing Off Strong Feeder and Stocker Prices- Derrell Peel
Mon, 17 Mar 2014 07:55:26 CDT
Cattle prices have been strong thus far in 2014- and that includes the prices for feeder and stocker cattle that have been supported by feedlots bidding up for available cattle to fill their pens- as well as by producers looking for replacement heifers to rebuild their mama cow herds.
Oklahoma State University Extension Livstock Market Economist Dr. Derrell Peel tells us that 2014 is really just the beginning- as he sees tight supplies and resulting strong prices for several more years.
As for rebuilding the beef cow herd- Peel sees it all about the weather- especially here in the southern plains- and especially over the next sixty days or so. If the moisture is there to grow forage and fill ponds- then the efforts to add cows to the beef cow herd will continue.
Dr. Peel and his thoughts on this plus some "offense-defense" strategy for beef cow operators to consider are featured on today's Beef Buzz.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network- but is also a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
