Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for Monday 05/05/2014

Actual Receipts: 9655   Last Monday: 7257   Year Ago Monday: 9549

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 1.00-4.00 higher, instances of up to 8.00 higher on steers 850 lbs and up. Feeder heifers 2.00-5.00 higher. Demand remains very good for feeder cattle as the CME Feeder Cattle fall contracts advanced the limit late last week along with the front month progressing near the limit. The recent strength in the feeder prices has now made calf prices look more reasonable. Steer and heifer calves traded firm. Record high temperatures were recorded throughout the weekend across the state, with temperatures remaining in the 90's for the first part of this week. The chance of precipitation increases as we move through the week. Receipts this week totaled 83 percent over 600 lbs and 45 percent heifers.
