CROPLAN Offering Answer Plots Field Research
Fri, 29 Aug 2014 15:59:28 CDT
CROPLAN by Winfield will offer farmers the opportunity to see the latest genetics through their Answer Plots field research. This fall CROPLAN will have four different Oklahoma locations. Each field plot will be four to five acres in size with half planted to wheat and the other half planted to canola. Winfield Solutions seed and agronomy advisor Justin Stejskal said Answer Plots allow farmers to see the latest genetics from CROPLAN seed.
"Looking at various different things as far as response to nitrogen by a variety, response to population, response to seed treatments, response to a plant growth regulator," Stejskal said. "..We can get close to a thousand different data points on every plot we have out there."
The Answer Plots are fairly involved with a whole system approach to their research trials. With Oklahoma receiving more precipitation than recent years, Stejskal said they are hoping to get some good data from this years trials.
Amid all the preparations for planting at the Answer Plot locations, Stejskal took some time to speak with Radio Oklahoma Network Farm Director Ron Hays. You can hear their full conversation by clicking on the LISTEN BAR at the bottom of this story.
CROPLAN has Answer Plots research fields across the country, Stejskal said these research fields are designed to allow farmers to see the development of the wheat and canola throughout the growing season.
"Those plots are open 24 hours a day, every day for the nine months they are out there," Stejskal said. "We will have various times during the year we'll have formula settings out there."
CROPLAN often hosts VIP tours, where representatives will take farmers out to tour the Answer Plots on a one-on-one type basis. At the Answer Plots there is a portion of the field that has their replicated plots that they encourage the public to stay out of those locations, so their data is not altered. Stejskal said the demonstration area allows farmers to dig up roots and can more closely evaluate plants.
CROPLAN will have four locations in the state with one plot will be located at Pond Creek area in north central Oklahoma, near Hennessey, around the Clinton or Bessie area and one near the Oklahoma-Texas State line.
CROPLAN by WinField combines the most advanced genetics on the market with field-tested Answer Plot results to provide farmers with a localized seed recommendation based on solid data. Plans have been made to have four Answer Plot locations across Oklahoma this coming growing season- featuring wheat and canola.
