Senator Elect James Lankford Ready to be a Part of the Republican Majority in the New Year
Wed, 05 Nov 2014 05:39:26 CST
Senator Elect James Lankford has served two terms in the US House- and now heads across the Capitol to fill out the last two years of the Tom Coburn seat after winning 68% of the popular vote Tuesday evening. In talking with Farm Director Ron Hays, Lankford said it was all about "serving people" and he expressed his humility in realizing how many people supported his campaign- "trusting us to go to Washington and represent us" and said that the work begins immediately to get a staff hired and organized and then to compete for Committee assignments that will matter to Oklahoma.
Hays and Lankford also talked briefly about how to use a GOP majority in the Senate to take on the regulatory crusades that the Obama Administration has been advancing- and is expected to ramp up to an even more frenzied pace now that the mid term November elections are over. Senator Elect Lankford says that with the GOP controlling both the House and the Senate- there will be the chance to stop funding many of these initiatives.
Hays asked the new Senator specifically about EPA and WOTUS- and Lankford urged all those listening to submit a comment to EPA on the Waters of the US proposed rule with the deadline now only about a week away(November 14th). He believes that those comments from real people who will be hurt by the overregulation can make a difference.
