Boiling Springs Fire Seventy Percent Contained- According to ODAFF Report

Boiling Springs Fire Seventy Percent Contained- According to ODAFF Report According to a report released late Tuesday afternoon by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, the Boiling Springs wild fire is now 70 percent containted. Better climatic conditions on Tuesday helped more than 100 firefighters get ahead of the fast moving fire, which resulted in the burning of over 22,000 acres in Woods and Woodward Counties.

The following is the full released from ODAFF:

Over 100 firefighters continue to battle the Boiling Springs Fire, near Woodward, Oklahoma and are breathing a little easier as more favorable weather conditions allowed a lot of good work to be accomplished on Tuesday. The fire began Monday around 2:30 p.m. and strong gusty winds pushed the fire, which grew very quickly.

"We have to praise the herculean effort by both the Woodward and Mooreland fire departments for their initial attack efforts when this fire started," said Drew Daily, Oklahoma Forestry Services fire management forester, "and they did an outstanding job pulling in wildland task forces and organizing state, local and county resources."

Oklahoma Forestry Services is in unified command with Woodward and Mooreland fire chiefs. This allows the local jurisdictions to utilize local resources battling the fire and allows those who handled the overnight firefighting efforts to get some much needed rest. OFS also provided six Type 6 engines and six bulldozers to join the local resources on the fire.

Conditions Tuesday included cooler temperatures, little higher relative humidity and less gusty winds allowing firefighters to construct lines and conduct burnout operations where appropriate.
Daily reported containment is now at 70% and acreage was adjusted down to 22,336 acres due to more accurate mapping.

Assessment of damages and structures lost are being conducted by Oklahoma Emergency Management personnel who confirm that at least six structures have been lost, though that number is expected to increase. All evacuations have been lifted and no road closures are in place, though local residents are encouraged to continue to avoid the fire area if possible due to fire traffic.
