Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 03/23/2015

Estimated receipts: 6,800   Last Monday: 10,947   Year Ago Monday: 7,997

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded 4.00 to 8.00 higher, with instances of 10.00 to 12.00 higher on 650-750 lb heifers. Steer and heifer calves mostly 1.00 to 2.00 higher on a light test. The CME Feeder and Live Cattle contracts recognized large gains last week, and continued upward Monday with the March Feeder cattle contract closing up 2.10 and April Live cattle closing up the limit. Additionally, fat cattle traded 2.00 to 2.50 higher in the country last week. This along with rain and warm weather in the state over the weekend boosting the wheat crop and summer pastures has resulted in very good buyer demand.
