Farmer Co-ops Applaud Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Agreement
Fri, 17 Apr 2015 10:03:26 CDT
The National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC) applauded the introduction of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation in the Senate and expressed hope that the chamber would move to consider the bill expeditiously.
"Expanding overseas markets by breaking down trade barriers is critical to the continued success of many farmer co-ops and their producer-owners. These co-ops have seen the real benefits that trade adds to the bottom line and bringing pending trade negotiations to a successful conclusion is a top priority," said Chuck Conner, president and CEO of NCFC. "Passing TPA will empower U.S. negotiators to do just that and can help ensure that the agreements address the trade barriers faced by American agriculture."
"I would like to thank Senators Hatch and Wyden for their efforts over the past few months in coming to this agreement it serves as a model of the bipartisanship and hard work that will be necessary to see this legislation signed into law," Conner concluded. "NCFC urges members of the Senate Finance Committee to support the TPA bill when it is taken up in the next week or so and look forward to the Senate and House moving quickly to pass TPA."
