Workshop Focuses on Maintaining Productive Ponds

A pond can be a significant asset to any farming or ranching operation, but maintaining optimal fisheries production and water quality often requires appropriate knowledge and effort.
To help resource managers maximize their aquatic resources, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Pond Management Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the Noble Foundation Pavilion.
The workshop will emphasize pond and lake management for sport fishing but will address aspects of other pond goals as well. Topics include:
-- Designing and constructing impoundments.
-- Water quality.
-- Fish identification, ecology and stocking.
-- Management of existing fisheries.
-- Aquatic plant identification and management.
-- Importance of goals for management decisions.
-- Seine surveys.
"Considerable misunderstanding and misinformation exists regarding ponds, which results in mismanagement of this valuable resource," said Will Moseley, Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultant. "This workshop is an excellent opportunity for people to learn how to properly manage and utilize their ponds and lakes to benefit their overall goals."
Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries consultants will also conduct a pond tour with discussions about relevant on-site demonstration activities. Noble Foundation consultants will be on hand to address participant questions.
